Netsanet Negussie is a Minneapolis born street & documentary photographer, documentary producer and writer based in New York City.
Her efforts as a documentarian stem from her involvement in preserving federal subsidized housing as an AmeriCorps VISTA community organizer. As a response to witnessing the increase in development projects occurring in the Twin Cities and acknowledging the devastating impact this had on the existing socioeconomic-cultural framework of the community, she began to archive stories of individuals who felt compelled to tell their truth as they confront challenges that pose the threat of losing their homes.
Netsanet believes in the significant power of the documentary tradition and shifted her passion from community development to nonfiction producing (short and long-form). She has worked with a number of organizations like POV on PBS, Chicken & Egg Pictures, New York Theatre Workshop and Catalyst Films, where she currently serves as its Creative Development Associate. Netsanet screens for Camden International Film Festival and the Peabody Awards. Currently, she is pursuing her M.A. in Journalism with a special focus in documentary film at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
